Knowledge about the Skin

Know Your Skin

1. Layers of the epidermis
The epidermis is divided into the stratum corneum, the stratum pellucidum (only in areas such as the palmaris), the stratum granulosum, the stratum spicatum, and the stratum basale.

2. What is the sebaceous membrane
It is a transparent film covering the surface of the skin, mainly composed of sebum secreted by sebaceous glands, sweat secreted by sweat glands, and lipids produced by the disintegration of stratum corneum cells. It is the lipid barrier of the skin, which is able to lock moisture, reduce water evaporation, and also has a certain anti-latent effect.

3. Dermal structure
The dermis is divided into papillary layer, reticular layer, collagen fibres, elastic fibres, reticular fibres.

4. Oily skin
The water content of the stratum corneum is normal or reduced, sebum secretion is vigorous, the skin surface is greasy, the pores are large, and sores are easy to occur.

5. Dry skin
The moisture content of the stratum corneum is less than 10%, sebum secretion is low, the skin is dry, flaky, delicate, lusterless, prone to fine wrinkles and pigmentation.

6. Combination skin
Generally refers to oily skin in the T-zone of the face and thousand or neutral skin in the cheeks.

7. Sensitive skin
Skin contact with a small amount of external stimulants or allergic substances will appear red, swollen, itchy cancer, tingling and other manifestations.

8. Metabolic principle
The basal mother cell absorbs nutrients and oxygen and then constantly divides to produce daughter cells and pushes upward layer by layer, changing its form and role in the process of pushing up until the process of shedding the stratum corneum.

9. Six major functions of the skin
Barrier function, immune function, absorption function, secretion/excretion and metabolism, regulation of body temperature, sensory function.

10. Causes of aging
Wrinkle: fibre breakage, relaxation, collagen loss
Empty: reduction of tissue contents (collagen, fat)
Loose: reduction of tissue content, relaxation of collagen fibres in the reticular layer
Sagging: gravity + fascial degeneration
Collapse: Continuous sagging that collapses the tissue architecture.
